Buster's Best for October

Each month students will be selected that exemplify what Buster, Oasis Academy’s Mascot, looks for in Oasis students. These are students that go above and beyond, show kindness, respect others and themselves, strive for excellence, and persevere even when tasks are difficult.

Gabriel Houyoux

Gabriel is in the sixth grade and loves reading and writing. He has already written a few books and his stories are about magical adventures and horror. He’s looking forward to raising a lamb for FFA this year and enjoys cooking “anything he can get his hands on.”

Counselor Andy Lenon says of Gabriel, “He has an awesome sense of humor and is engaging when I teach in class. He is a go-getter and excited to work on his VFW Patriot's Pen essay. I am proud of you Gabriel!”

Thomas Acomb

Thomas loves the swings and playing outside. His favorite subject in school is math. When he’s at home he helps take care of his chickens including Sticky Rice, Rocky, and Giraffe.

“Thomas is only in 1st grade, he is an excellent attentive listener. He does a great job of tracking the speaker and engaging in lessons. When he raises his hand I always know that he has something to share that is on topic and will add a lot to the discussion. He is a good role model for his class on how to be a present and ready learner, and that's why he's one of Buster's Bests.” says Counselor Shelley Kelly of Thomas.

Greyson Johnson

Greyson wants to be a teacher when he gets older. He is in fifth grade and enjoys playing basketball on the Oasis Middle School Team. His favorite subject is math and he plays video games in his free time.

Greyson is a lot of fun to teach in class. When he raises his hand you never really know what you're going to get. It might be something insightful. Or funny. Or both.” describes Counselor Shelley Kelly. “I hear from his classmates that they can always count on Greyson to be kind to them, even when others are not. I appreciate that he is kind when he doesn't know people are paying attention. Kindness matters, and that's why he's one of Buster's Bests.”
