Jacob Munoz

Second grader Jacob Munoz won the Reno Tahoe Piano Competition for ages nine and under this weekend in Reno. The competition included participants from all over the west coast. Munoz memorized and played The Fluttering Leaves in A minor and Love will See us Through in D minor. For winning the competition he received a $300 prize.

The now eight year old has been playing for three years. He takes lessons from Florida Manse, owner of Jeridels Piano Studio in Fallon, and Dr. Mayu Nomura at the Steinway Gallery. Jacob practices everyday, starting with the Hanon to warm up.

Jacob says, “learning new songs is my favorite part. My favorite composer is Mozart and my favorite song is Alla Turca.”

Jacob wants to continue with music as he grows up, with the goal of eventually playing in orchestras and symphonies.
