McEwen and Norcutt

Senior and Oasis co-Valedictorian, Tayler Felton,  finished strong at the Nevada State Rodeo in Winnemucca. Felton was the 2022 Girls Cutting State Champion, the Reserve State Champion Team Roping Header, the Reserve State Break Away Champion, and Reserve All Around Cowgirl.

Also performing exceptionally well was junior Tylie Norcutt. Norcutt received the Nevada State High School All Around Cowgirl, finished first in reined cow horse, second in goat tying, fourth in cutting, fourth in the break away, and fourth in team roping.

Norcutt’s roping partner is fellow Oasis student and senior Jaylee McEwen.

Felton, Norcutt and McEwen will now move on to the National High School Finals Rodeo in Gillette, Wyoming. The rodeo begins July 17.

“The next six weeks will be stressful with a lot of practice,” said Norcutt about going to Nationals. “But I am excited for the opportunity and seeing my hard work pay off this far.”

Eighth grader Wyatt Peek won his group for Breakaway and Team Roping. He also finished second in Ribbon Roping and fourth in Chute Dogging and Goat Tying. Peek received Reserve All Around.

The National Junior High Final Rodeo will be in Perry, Georgia.  That rodeo begins June 19.
