Academic Olympic Team

What 1967 war faced protests at the Pentagon and on several college campuses? What city lies on the Yamuna river and was partially developed by Herbert Baker and Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century? These are just a sample of questions the Academic Olympic Team must be able to answer.

Quiz Bowls, more formally known as National Academic Quiz Tournaments LLC, is an academic competition where teams of students from different schools test their knowledge through buzzers and intricate questions.

Mrs. Ramona Price, a Special Education and Social Studies teacher, is Oasis Academy College Prep’s first Academic Team Coach. As a mentor and lead for the inaugural high school team, Price is optimistic and has been encouraging the students through the new experience.

Thus far, the team has attended competitions in Silver Springs, Yerington, and Dayton.

As a new team that is learning the ins and outs of the program, students have enjoyed the opportunity to participate, and meet other students from the region with similar interests.

“It’s surprisingly fun and competitive, so I encourage anyone interested to join!” said Junior Thanh Nguyen.

The team is open to any students interested in participating and that can attend weekly meets and practices.

As these students pursue their first season in the academic competition, they are excited to test their knowledge and meet other philomaths across Nevada! For more information on the Academic Olympic Team contact Mrs. Ramona Price at rprice@oanv.org.
